The 2 weeks old baby rejected by parents finds life with grandfather!
It is sad that a 2 week old girl was rejected by her own mother because she was born with a typical condition which could not be accepted by her. The baby born with an abnormal skin condition causing her to have wrinkles all around her body at such a tender age caused a concern on her parents.
The concern turned into worry and soon there was humiliation amongst people causing the mother to disregard the birth of her second daughter. This is the story of Mamata Dode’s daughter, the 2 weeks old girl that was born in Maharashtra, Western India. The baby being prematurely born with only 800 grams of weight caused a concern amongst the doctors as well as her parents due to her weak body, wrinkled skin and abnormal look.
Babies born with diseases are not a new thing today but given the people and their lifestyle it is often as humiliation amongst people. India is known to be surrounded by a lot of myths and thinking which needs to take a shift and hence fighting with the thoughts is a slow process. The birth of the baby created fear amongst people and her parents of the spreading of condition and thus led to rejection first by the villagers and later by the parents.
It was the baby’s grandfather, Dilip Dode, 50, who stepped in such tough time and decided to raise the daughter all on his own. Claiming that it was not the child’s fault to be born in this state and that life is important for all – Dilip has been raising the baby with utter care and dedication.
Baby’s care is estimated to need almost $6000 US or 500,000 rupees which was a cause of concern until The Wadia Hospital stepped in to take up the expenses of the child on its entirety. Dilip Dode too has been given a place to stay during the baby’s treatment. The rare condition is called the Intrauline growth retardation (IUGR) which is a state of poor growth of the child due to the lack of oxygen or lack of space in the mother’s womb.
A lot of tests have been carried out on the baby and even the chromosomal mutation was done to check on the condition of the child. However with good care and treatment being undertaken at The Wadia Hospital there is no danger to the child’s life and the baby is showing signs of growth which is much necessary for her survival.
Surviving the rejection of the parents and fighting with the rare condition the baby is breathing better each day. It is due to the compassion and kindness shown by the baby’s grandmother as well as the help provided by The Wadia Hospital that the baby is indeed getting another chance at life. As they say life is beautiful, there seems to be a beautiful touch of life on the baby as she has been surviving each day with better health. The compassion and kindness has indeed traveled long to make our lives better today!
